About Glass Onion

Peeling back public money, layer by layer.

Public money moves in layers. A dollar can start as a State or federal grant, pass through a County or City budget, go to a public agency, and end up in a contract with a local provider. Each layer is described in a different document, and few people have time to read them all.

Glass Onion peels those layers back one at a time and makes each one clear. We use published public documents, count each dollar once, link every number to the page it came from, and say plainly when something is not published. We do not take sides on policy.

Sac Spending Tracker

Sac Spending Tracker is Glass Onion's first project. It follows money for homelessness programs in Sacramento County: how much the City of Sacramento and Sacramento County budget, who receives it, and what results are published.
