Ideas we plan to build, or are still weighing
Ideas we plan to build or are still weighing. Plans can change.
1. Solutions engine Planned
A place to read clear, structured proposals for using homelessness money, organized with the help of AI. Examples of ideas it would cover:
- Contracts that pay for results (such as people housed and staying housed) instead of activities (such as beds filled or contacts made).
- Prevention for people likely to become homeless within the next year.
- Neighborhood community centers.
- Small local grants.
Each proposal would show its evidence, cost and open questions. It would not endorse any of them.
2. Legislation and ballot monitor Planned
Tracking proposed laws and ballot measures that affect homelessness funding (for example, new business taxes), and explaining in plain language what each one could change further down the line.
3. Indirect costs Planned
Police, fire and medical calls, and public works cleanup linked to homelessness. These are not published as separate amounts today, so the site shows them as "not yet counted" rather than guessing.
4. Resident reports of street conditions (map) Under consideration
A map built from conditions residents report. The team is cautious about this one: dashboards on their own have not changed outcomes in the past, so it would only be added if it clearly helps.
5. Letters sent by mail Under consideration
Letting residents send letters to officials through a mail service, directly from the site.
